In his first term, Trump made the allegation that the media was ‘the enemy of the people’. A recent study showed that the media is at least the enemy of Trump/MAGA as 92% news was negative to Trump. The most negative coverage (97%) was on the DOGE efforts to identify ‘waste, fraud, and abuse’ in government agencies and programs. Media Research Center, who provided the analysis, based their findings from reviewing 1900 minutes of newscasts covering the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Biden’s news coverage was 56% positive for the same time period in his administration. The disparity is beyond excuse. Legacy media is certainly free to report however they want, but when they self-identify as ‘objective journalists’, that has been a house of cards and their ratings and credibility have suffered along with the education of the public on government affairs.
Trump Polling Down, Not as Far as Most Media Say
This article cites approval numbers at 45%, down from 50% a few weeks ago, but not nearly as bad as the legacy media polls showing 40% or even lower. This again points to a narrative that legacy media is trying to promote as opposed to being objective. There is typically a drop in presidential approval after the honeymoon period and with Trump making sweeping changes on immigration, tariffs, education, et al plus the related volatility in the stock and bond markets, a drop in approval is not unexpected.
Flag Wars: Boise Mayor McLean Defies Flag Law
This past session, the Idaho legislature passed HB96 which made the flying of the ‘LGBTQ Pride Flag’ at the Boise City Hall illegal. Mayor McClean has exchanged letters with the Idaho Attorney General refusing to remove the flag and inviting a legal challenge. As of now, both sides are rallying their bases, and this symbolic battle is poised to escalate.
The mayor will be seeking to make the flag an official city flag in a meeting on May 6th that would skirt the law. There has also been discussion about further legislation next session to withhold sales tax revenue from the city.
NOTE: The lack of meaningful, curated news for Idahoans was the impetus for starting ‘The Idaho Voter’, and the headline story above was most appropriate for our first substack in almost 2 years. We know people are busy and don’t have the time to follow all that is going on, but we are living in remarkable times and it is too important to not attempt to provide better information than what people hear from legacy media.
