Culture Clash in Kellogg
Student's Comments Cause Graduation Ban; FBI Wray Contempt?; Energy and Debt Deal Challenges
Idaho Student Banned for Gender Comment
Saying that ‘girls are girls and boys are boys’ got a high school graduate banned from graduation ceremonies as well as having his job offer with the US Fire Service rescinded. A school bus driver was also fired for attending a protest of the banning. The remarks were made at a pride event in Kellogg, Idaho and the speaker, Travis Lohr, apparently changed his prepared remarks and inserted the comment that caused friction with several teachers.
FBI Director Wray Facing Contempt of Congress
Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep James Comer (R-Ky), stated he will pursue a contempt of Congress charge for FBI Director Christopher Wray for failing to turnover a document requested by the Committee. The FBI refused stating the document is part of an on-going investigation. Comer stated that the document talks of a credible FBI informant who provided information about a bribe of then Vice President Biden by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The press conference with Chairman Comer and Ranking Chair Raskin is below.
Opinion: Debt Deal Disaster
The Idaho Freedom Foundation weighed in on the recent debt deal, not only from a national perspective but for Idaho as well. The author points out that federal grants to States have increased 119% since 2012 whereas our gross domestic product (GDP) has increased 55% during that time. Tenable? If States like Idaho become dependent on those grants and then they are curtailed or eliminated, it could have disastrous consequences.
Wind/Solar Have Peak Hour Problem
Renewable sources of energy are desirable and there has been considerable investment in those technologies over the past few decades, but the author points out that both technologies either drop off or are not as reliable during the peak evening hours. This then requires an alternate source of energy as a backup. Adding battery technology for storage is an option but that drives the cost up over natural gas. California has moved to wind and solar quite heavily, causing it to buy backup energy from surrounding states and driving up the cost in those states.
Is this why Idaho Power has just raised their rates about 10%?
